i interrupt this hiatus for some feedback... going to ithaca this weekend, some peeps have asked me where to go and eat... have i missed anything (yes, manos diner was left out on purpose; and dining places were divided between places that are actually good and places that have sentimental value for me)?

| surgery = fun when you get to do things, but really rough life style psych = fun b/c of crazy people, great life style but not really medicine obgyn = disgustingly fun, rough but not as bad as surgery medicine = i can't quite describe it... lots of pontificating | | |
| i saw this on seriouseats...
i can't stop smiling now... and wanting a pet bunny! look at the bunny with the closed eyes!!! this'll be even more controversial than my previous post, but cuteness-wise: bunnies > dogs > cats i think i'm bored out of my mind... i've been lectured for 2 hours straight now on domestic violence and they stopped saying new things after the first 15 minutes...
| i feel compelled to write this despite the fact that my shelf for psych is tomorrow... but what's happening in our country right now is sort of like the nfl season... specifically the superbowl... or better yet the world series (when a popular team like the red sox or the cubs are playing)... everyone is tuning in to how our country elected a black president, and everyone is excited (or super duper pissed)... people are probably visiting nytimes and cnn around the clock to see live coverage of the celebrations and reading transcripts of the victory speech (and concession speech, which by the way was one of the better speeches that mccain has delivered)... why i compare this to the world series is that... i really question how many people normally are this informed, or normally are this politically active... it's bandwagoning... this is like the "it", "exciting" thing to do right now, so everyone is doing it... it's cool to be politically informed, just like it's cool to be informed about red sox lore and trivia when they were in the series in '04... i've seen more political posts on blogs in the past 2 weeks than i have the past 4 years, but the real question is how many people will do this when it's not so exciting, how many people will still as consistently read up on the issues, find out what their government is doing, and care about something other than their own personal lives when it's not the popular thing to do, or when it's not front page on CNN... i'm just questioning how long it is before CNN/nytimes goes back to posting things like BRITNEY SPEARS IS READMITTING TO HOSPITAL AND PREGNANT WITH TRIPLETS WITH K. FED on their front page...
the reason why this issue plagues my mind at this time is because a lot (not all) people who vote, think that they are more engaged and overall more involved than those who don't (for the most part i agree), but when people judge me for not voting, or think that they are somehow more patriotic than me... that's really quite silly... that's like saying someone who didn't watch any of the regular season or alds/alcs calling a person who follows EVERY red sox game but who couldn't watch the world series because they couldn't afford tickets or had to work that night a NON-FAN/didn't care about the team... it's absolutely ludicrous... i'm no political guru or activist... but i'm far more informed than most and just because i choose not to take part in a largely broken, highly inefficient, hugely archaic, tyrannical two party system/electoral voting algorithm does not mean that i don't try to make a difference in my own way... what's important is that people care, and people do something about it... and most of the people yesterday, i hope will continue to care and continue to do something about it... but the pesimisstic nature in me will force me to not hold my breath... i am hopeful though at least for the people who read my posts, because this rant has largely been preaching to the choir...
btw, i dedicate this brief rant to my former prayer partner and co-leader of inreach, jonfromcanada who consistently posts about fascinating political topics even when it is not en vogue to do so... and who i analogously compare to the most die-hard of red sox fans... and who will also serve as my legal counsel one day when someone tries to sue the pants off me b/c massachusetts refuses to engage in true tort (and more specifically malpractice; unlike california) reform!
